Chrome Extension
Last updated: July 2026 (v2.9.1)
Animana Consult AI reads the following information from the IDEXX Animana page you have open in your browser:
This data is read directly from the web page you are already viewing — the extension does not access any Animana API, database, or server independently.
On the Patient History (external record) and Lab Results tabs, you may optionally upload a PDF or image file from your own device (for example, a scanned referral letter or a lab report). These files are read locally in your browser and are not stored by the extension beyond the current session — see Section 3.
The extension supports two interchangeable AI providers — Anthropic (Claude) and Google (Gemini). You choose which one is active in the Settings tab, and each note generation request is sent to that single provider only, using your own API key for that provider.
When you click Generate or Summarise on any tab (Patient History, Consult/Vaccination, Lab Results, Surgical, or Dental), the extension sends the following to your selected provider:
This data is sent solely to generate the requested clinical text. Please refer to Anthropic's Privacy Policy or Google's Privacy Policy, depending on which provider you have selected, for how they handle API request data. Neither provider uses API request data submitted through their developer APIs to train models by default.
The Dental tab can also export the chart as a PNG image and upload it directly to the current patient's Animana attachments, using your existing Animana session. This image is sent only to Animana, not to the AI provider.
No data is sent to the extension developer or any other third party.
The extension stores the following in your browser's local storage (chrome.storage.local), which remains on your device only:
Files you upload on the Patient History or Lab Results tabs are held only in the browser's working memory for the duration of generating that response, and are cleared when you switch patients or reload the panel — they are not written to chrome.storage.local. Only the AI-generated text summary of that file is saved locally, as described above.
This data never leaves your device except as described in Section 2 above (your API key is used to authenticate requests to your selected AI provider).
You are responsible for ensuring your use of this extension complies with applicable data protection laws (including GDPR where applicable) and your clinic's data handling policies. Patient data is sent to your selected AI provider when you generate notes — you should ensure this is consistent with your practice's agreements and obligations, including any Data Processing Agreement your practice may need with Anthropic or Google.
The extension developer does not operate any server that receives, stores, or processes patient data. All data flows directly from your browser to the AI provider you configure — there is no intermediary.
The extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
The extension does not retain any data on any remote server. Input fields and generated notes are stored locally on your device per patient number and persist until you clear them manually or uninstall the extension. Uploaded files themselves are never retained — only the AI-generated summary text is saved, as described in Section 3. Your API key(s) persist until you remove them from the Settings tab or uninstall the extension.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted at this URL. Continued use of the extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
